Snake, also known as Big Boss, recovers from a coma, and the plot of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain resumes in 1984, as the Cold War and the crisis it fuels shape the world. The starting point is the fall of Mother Base and the events of MGSV: Ground Zeroes, which lie nine years before. A desire for revenge drives the protagonist as he tracks the shadow group XOF. An open world grants tactical freedom in carrying out missions, while the Fox Engine delivers photo-realistic visuals. A single console supports one player, and online play allows up to 16.
