About the game

The story of Avowed takes place in Eora, the setting previously used by the Pillars of Eternity series, and the game itself is a role-playing title played from a first-person view. The protagonist serves as an envoy of Aedyr and travels to the island called the Living Lands to look into a mysterious plague, yet the mission of duty gradually gains personal weight as the land appears to acknowledge the hero as its own. Decisions made along the way affect the fate of the island's inhabitants, its creatures, the companions, and the protagonist. Battles let the player combine swords, spells, guns, and shields, while abilities come from four specializations—Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, and Godlike—and are supplemented by companion skills. The Anniversary Update introduced New Game Plus, a Photo Mode, two-handed staves, the option to alter appearance at any time, fresh presets for characters and Godlike, detailed difficulty settings, and three playable races: Dwarf, Aumaua, and Orlan. Companions of various species, each with a distinct personality, goals, and abilities, fight at the hero's side and evolve in response to the player's choices.
