About the game
Painkiller: Resurrection is an action game from Homegrown Games, released in 2009. The plot follows a man who dies from his own C4 charge: he was preparing to eliminate a South American druglord for some shady secret service people, but also killed a bus full of innocent civilians in the process. After death he finds himself in purgatory, where heavenly warriors give him a chance to atone for the damage done by putting his particular skills and weapons to use. The world draws on medieval notions of hell and purgatory. Fast, straightforward levels alternate with enormous, explorable regions, and the story is presented through cutscenes in a graphic novel style. There is a single-player mode and multiplayer with numerous modes and maps, while the Painkiller 2.0 engine has been completely reworked and includes shader effects, weather systems, physics and an anticheat system.
