About the game
Call of Duty 2 is a WWII shooter developed by Infinity Ward and released in 2006. Its campaign is shown through the eyes of ordinary soldiers and spans the European Theater, from desert battles against the Desert Fox in North Africa to scaling the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc with an Army Ranger squad using rocket-propelled grappling hooks, and fighting through urban chaos in war-torn Russia as a tank hunter. Players choose the order in which they complete missions, and open-ended battlefields with no time limits let them shape their own tactics. Allied soldiers around the player react to changing situations through a context-sensitive battle chatter system: they draw enemy fire, lay down cover, use foxholes and moving tanks for protection, and warn of incoming troops. Alongside the single-player campaign, team-based Axis versus Allies multiplayer builds on the modes of Call of Duty. The game runs on the new COD2 engine, with dynamic lighting and shadows and rendered snow, rain, fog, and smoke.
