About the game
In Half-Life 2 the Seven Hour War is already lost and Earth is overrun by aliens, its resources being picked to the bone and its populace dwindling while the Black Mesa incident remains a distant memory. Gordon Freeman, a research scientist, is once more the one holding the crowbar, and the task of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed at Black Mesa falls to him while many people he cares about count on him. It is a first-person shooter with a single-player campaign in which the game's physics visibly shapes both the world and the combat. Alongside the base game come the Episode One and Episode Two expansions, standalone adventures set after it; they are accessible from the main menu, and completing the first episode moves the player straight to the second. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is included as well, a multiplayer mode in the same universe where physics adds a new dimension to fights, with straight deathmatch and Combine versus Resistance teamplay. Through the Steam Workshop, entire campaigns can be played and weapons, enemies, UI and more replaced with community-made content.

The Seven Hour War is lost. Earth has surrendered. The Black Mesa incident is a distant memory.
